For Spring/Summer 2021, minimalist Scandinavian lifestyle brand ARKET has released an eco-friendly patchwork denim range crafted from vintage fabrics and post-consumer materials.

The Patchwork Denim collection was created in collaboration with recycling project I:Collect. Through I:Collect, pieces of second-hand clothing were washed and sorted before being repurposed and cut into new patchwork items.

ARKET’s new eight-piece collection comprises wardrobe essentials for both women and children such as jackets, jeans, and a skirt, along with accessories and home décor items including a bucket hat, tote bag, and cushion cover.

To elevate each look, the longevity-focused pieces are crafted with various denim patches featured in an array of different washes, ranging from light to dark. And due to the irregular pattern and numerous second-hand fabrics used, each garment in ARKET’s Patchwork Denim range is one-of-a-kind.

Denim is currently one of the most damaging fabrics in the fashion industry due to its manufacturing process. To create one pair of jeans, up to 8,000 litres of water is used, and most of them end up in landfills. By upcycling these reclaimed fabrics, ARKET continues to create designs that make up a more circular product life cycle.

ARKET’s Patchwork Denim range is now available at its brick-and-mortar locations and online. Prices range from €35 EUR to €115 jacket EUR ($53 to $173 CAD).
