Fitting rooms and trying on clothing at retail stores may soon come to an end with the patented blended virtual reality mirror by Amazon.

This new innovative technology would allow individuals to try on clothing virtually and seamlessly with its partially-reflective and partially-transmissive surface mirror. Using a mix of displays, cameras, and projectors, a blended image of the clothing article is generated onto the individual.

The mirror works by scanning the environment to generate a virtual model, then identifies the face and eyes of the user to determine which objects are to be seen as a reflection. Once this process is completed, the virtual clothes and scene are transmitted through the mirror to create the blended-reality result.

Still in its initial phase of development, Amazon has bought an AI-software and computer vision company called Body Labs to help develop its new patent.
