Singapore’s iconic Marina Bay Sands resort has become home to a groundbreaking addition – the first Acne Studios store in Southeast Asia. Nestled in the bustling heart of The Shoppes, this store redefines the shopping experience with its innovative design, reflecting Acne Studios’ commitment to contemporary craftsmanship and bold aesthetics.

Let’s take a closer look at this glass-clad wonder that stands as an embodiment of modernity and creativity.

A Design Collaboration

Behind the captivating facade of the Marina Bay Sands Acne Studios store lies a remarkable design narrative crafted by the Swedish design studio Halleröd. This project was no ordinary feat, as Halleröd collaborated closely with Acne Studios to bring to life a transformative vision. The result is a transparent room with visible construction that echoes the ethos of Acne Studios.

The Meccano Inspiration

One of the most striking features of this store is its modular system of glass panels, reminiscent of the iconic Meccano model construction system. These panels provide an insight into the store’s structural framework, offering a simultaneous experience of brutal frankness and fragility, thanks to the clear glass sheets. The design, by architect Christian Halleröd, invites shoppers to appreciate the artistry of construction while immersing themselves in the brand’s unique atmosphere.

Max Lamb’s Soft Touch

Renowned furniture designer Max Lamb adds a touch of softness to this modernist masterpiece. His seating design introduces organic and irregular shapes known as ‘Blobs.’

These pieces not only provide comfort but also pay homage to Acne Studios’ SS23 collection with their block shades of hand-dyed batik fabrics. The connection between design and fashion is evident throughout the store.

The Art of Color and Fabrics

Acne Studios’ affinity for colours and fabrics finds expression in the store’s windows. A hollow wall filled with bundles of matching fabrics offers a visual feast, aligning perfectly with the brand’s design language. It’s a nod to the brand’s commitment to texture, colour, and visual appeal.

Minimalist Tech Aesthetic

Halleröd aptly describes the store’s aesthetic as “minimalist tech.” This concept is not only evident in the choice of materials but also in the fine details. The speckled grayscale rug, high-gloss Marmorino walls, industrial Radiator light system designed by Benoit Lalloz, and custom mannequins created by British sculptor Daniel Silver all contribute to this high-tech yet minimalist ambiance.
