Taiwanese electronics company Acer recently launched three new laptops, and there’s one that’s caught our attention.

The Aspire Vero is one of Acer’s newest products, launched earlier this week, and it’s eco-friendly.

As it’s taken some time for the electronics industry to get on board with sustainable manufacturing, this is a major stride for Acer.

Hailed as a “green PC made from recycled plastic,” Acer’s Aspire Vero was engineered so that it can be taken apart easily for repairs, recycling, or upgrades (it is held together by simple-to-remove standardized screws).

Meanwhile, the packaging is 100% recyclable and the box it comes in is even designed to be used as a laptop stand with multiple angles. 85% recycled paper was used to create the box and 100% recycled plastic was used to make the laptop bag and keyboard sheet, while a paper sleeve was used in lieu of a traditional charger bag.

Further, the laptop comes with its own VeroSense software that reduces power consumption and extends battery life (the software is optional).

In terms of building materials, the Aspire Vero’s chassis (which includes the top and bottom cover, screen bezel, and operating surface) and keyboard caps were made out of 30% and 50% recycled post-consumer plastic, respectively. This use of recycled plastic serves to cut down on carbon emissions by an estimated 21% and reduces the use of virgin plastic.

The chassis of the new Acer laptop is also paint-free to lower the negative impact of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are harmful solvents that are released into the air when paint dries.

The Aspire Vero has earned an EPEAT Silver certification eco-label, designated by the Global Electronics Council (GEC). A silver certification means the product meets all the required EPEAT criteria, as well as at least 50% of the optional ones.

Finally, to further draw attention to the message of reduce, reuse, recycle, the Acer Aspire Vero features stylized mirrored “R” and “E” keys on the keyboard.

Acer’s Aspire Vero is available for purchase on their website.
